What is Wind Ensemble?
Wind Ensemble is the second of two curricular ensemble offered at Somerville High School. This ensemble is audition only and serves students from 10th to 12th grade. Students in Wind Ensemble can expect to perform high level music and perform multiple times a year.
How do I join Wind Ensemble?
Wind Ensemble is an honors ensemble. To be a part of this band, students must fulfill the following requirements:
- Have participated at least 1 year of Symphonic Band
- Perform all 12 major scales at proficient level.
- Have participated in 1 concert
- Perform an excerpt from concert repertoire at a proficient level.
How many performances can I expect to participate in?
Winter Concert: Concert is held at Somerville High School. Performance usually happens around the last week of December before Winter Break.
William Paterson University Band Festival: In late February, Wind Ensemble will travel to William Paterson University to perform in a concert band festival. This will happen during school.
CJMEA Concert Band Festival: In mid-March, Wind Ensemble will travel to a central New Jersey high school to perform for the CJMEA Concert Band Festival. Performance in this festival puts our school into the running for the NJ State Concert Band Gala.
Spring Concert: Concert is held at Somerville High School. Performance usually happens around the third week of May before Memorial Day weekend. This concert acknowledges Region/All-State Band members as well as graduating seniors.
Graduation: Students will perform for the Somerville High School commencement in mid-June.
